5 Tips to Style a Bookshelf
Hi friends! Welcome back!
In this new post, I wanted to talk to you about a piece of furniture that many people overlook: bookshelves. Everyone has one in their house, whether it is in the living room or their bedroom. While many only see it as a place to store their books, the reality is that it can be so much more! Have you ever thought about what it reflects? You can personalize it to your taste and needs, and turn it into part of your house decor.
1) Find some decorative books
First of all, you should think about getting some decorative books. While it is true that you should not judge a book by its cover, you can certainly pick a few nicely designed ones. You should keep in mind that, ideally, the book cover should be aligned with the decor style that you are looking for; luckily, nowadays there are a lot of different editions to choose from! Think about it like choosing the art you want to display on your walls.
2) Use vases and decorative bowls
I also recommend using vases and decorative bowls as part of the shelf decor. You can play with different shapes and sizes to achieve the look you want. For example, you can combine complimentary colors in different proportions. If the bookshelf is in the living room, you can use a bowl as décor, but also to keep important things that you should take when you leave the house, like car keys. But do not use it to store anything, it should be practical, adapted to your needs.
3) Include pictures
You can add a nice personal touch by putting up self-portraits, or even family pictures from a shared holiday or a memorable celebration. Choosing a nice frame will also help make the photograph stand out!
4) Consider adding sculptures
Decorative objects such as sculptures or a letter block can also help give the bookshelf a different twist. You can use the initial letter of the family surname, or yours if it is in your home office. Nowadays, there are a lot of different options online when it comes to sculptures! You can even get a reproduction of your favorite work of art and display it at your home. As with the other decorations, remember that it is best if it matches the overall aesthetic of the décor. You can play around with different shapes, sizes and textures to achieve a unique look!
5) Add greenery
Finally, there is my favorite option: adding greenery! You can use succulents, artificial plants and flowers, or even a hanging one like a photos or something similar. This will add more life to your bookshelf while also keeping it stylish and fresh. When it comes to choosing the flowerpot, remember to pick one with a drainage hole, and a little plate so the water does not touch the wood of the shelf. Remember that most plants need to be watered once a week, with a few exceptions like cacti or snake plants.
