How to Style Kitchen Shelves
Hello everyone! In this edition, I will be sharing with you my tips on how to style your kitchen shelves. I must say, the best-kept secret of decorating them is that you can pretty much always apply the same rules to every type of shelf. But in this post, we are going to talk about the rack in your kitchen.
1) Find functional and decorative items
The main difference is that you want to add culinary elements to it. Think about bowls, plates, maybe measuring cups that you need at a hand’s reach. Choose decorative objects that serve a purpose as well, like for example adding different sized jars to keep dry pasta, rice, beans; this would be a new play on textures and dimensions while keeping the decoration practical too.
2) Define your color palette
Play around with the different contrasts, whether it is in the textures, sizes, colors, or materials.
However, I would try to keep the color palette quite simple and neutral, so that you can innovate with other characteristics. In any case, you can add a pop of color by putting up a piece of art that you like, maybe a culinary poster or a simple painting. This will give an arty touch to your kitchen but also maintain it simple.
3) Incorporate greenery
As always, I recommend you add greenery and plants to breathe life into the kitchen. You can use potted plants if the shelves are near a sunlit window, although you can look for plants that do not need as much sunlight. If not, you can use fake plants, or set up an assortment of dry flowers and branches to add a rustic touch to your kitchen.
4) Include your cookbooks
Now it is time to take out those cooking books your grandmother got you! Not only they will help you cook better and learn more about cuisine, but also they work great as décor objects. Put them up on the shelves and use them to try new things: maybe stack them and put a vase on top of them to play with different heights.
5) Glasswear is a must
For me, adding glassware is a must. It is a material that comes in diverse colors and transparencies, so it is great to try different combinations and see which one you like best. An example would be the jars I was talking about earlier, you can look for ones that come in shades that match your decoration. Glass jars usually come in different patterns as well, so that is another possibility for you to try out. If you go to a flea market, I am sure you will find pieces of vintage glassware for a really good price! This way you will ensure that you will find something original for your kitchen.
7) Make it practical
When choosing which objects you are going to put up on your kitchen shelving, I would recommend that you think about the items that you usually need. For example, maybe you can put a vase holding kitchen utensils like a spatula, a ladle, etc. It is important that it does not only look pretty but that it also makes cooking more practical and easier for you.
Talk to you soon,
